Your Office Computer

Computer repair needs should be reported to your departmental tech support representative, who will pass those needs on to DATS: Joanna Mahon in Art, Toni Dorame in Media Arts, Deon Dourlein in Music, Justine Collins in Theatre Arts, and Chris Hanson in Fine Arts Administration. Please contact your departmental representative first in order to ensure proper tracking.

University-owned equipment is required to stay within the control of the university at all times and can only leave campus with explicit written permission from your department head. DATS/DANS is unable, with extremely rare exception, to repair problems with computers that have been taken off-campus. If a university-owned computer is located off-campus and needs repair, you will be required to bring it back to campus for that repair.

DATS/DANS only repairs university-owned computer equipment and technology. We do not have the ability to fix personally-owned equipment, though we will consult with you on repair options whenever possible.

CFA computers all have a "rollover" schedule to ensure that - as college, departmental, and other budgets allow - the increasing need for computers for all university tasks is met with the most current computer possible for each user. CFA computer refresh is managed by Joe Beals (Digital Arts Technical Manager), who will contact you or your area coordinator for consultation before replacing your desktop computer.

When computers and other equipment are no longer usable, they are first "cannibalized" for spare parts. When all usable components have been removed, the equipment is transferred to Surplus Property. This is the only way we are allowed to dispose of computer equipment at the university. We cannot donate it to outside charities or foundations, and we cannot sell it to individuals (though Surplus Property does offer public sales).
