Remote Computer Access
DATS/DANS uses remote access software (such as Apple Remote Desktop, Timbuktu, and Windows terminal services) for support of CFA computers. These tools help us troubleshoot and fix problems in order to decrease our response time to repair calls. We will always determine, first, if you are currently in your office and using your computer before remotely accessing it. This policy is no different than the use of master keys to enter your office to repair problems in your absence.
DATS/DANS also uses ARD and Timbuktu to manage CFA computing facilities: the Treistman Center, Wells Fargo Digital Imaging Lab, and the CFA Connectivity Lab, and ARD is used in the Digital Media Lab. See the CFA Computing Site Access and Operations Policies for more information on these sites and their management structure.
