Ensembles
Uof A vocal jazz ensembles have performed for and often held workshops with over 5000 students during multiple tours
The vocal jazz program currently has 2 vocal jazz groups:
The UA Hepcats: a group of 7-10 singers that performs alone and w/combo
Vocal Ease: a 6 voice female a cappella ensemble.
Performances and outreach of ensembles include athletic events, donor events, elementary school and high school events in California, Idaho, Wyoming, Oregon, Washington, Montana and throughout Arizona, private functions, on-campus concerts, Tucson Jazz Society events (Prima Vera), Sedona Distinguished Artists series, leading a workshop for the AMEA (American Music Educator’s Association) and ACDA (American Choral Director’s Association) conference, and performing the national anthem for Diamond Backs spring training.
Students in vocal jazz have the opportunity to obtain funds through the Medici Circle to work on special projects or attend programs outside the University during the Summer. One student attended “Jazz In July” in Amherst, Massachusetts. Another researched arrangements for female a cappella groups, gathered ideas, and arranged several songs.
