Student Success

Students from our program have done very well in securing excellent positions and in gaining admission to prestigious graduate programs. Degrees at bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels are offered in organ performance at the University of Arizona. Students who have completed master’s or doctoral (DMA) degrees here have gone on to high-paying church jobs and excellent academic opportunities. Lisa Ham (master’s, 2000) was a high-ranking semifinalist in the National Young Artist’s Competition in Organ Playing (NYACOP), sponsored by the American Guild of Organists, in 2002, when it was held in Philadelphia. She qualified again for the competition in 2006. Lisa is nearing completion of her DMA at the University of Washington, Seattle. David LeRoy McKinney (DMA 2006) studied organ in Germany as a Fulbright Scholar while he was a doctoral candidate at UA, and he was the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships recognizing the excellence of his work. These are just two examples of our students’ successes.
