How to Apply

NOTE: The application process is in two steps:

STEP ONE: Apply for admission to the University of Arizona

STEP TWO: Apply to the College of Fine Arts

Below is some general information about the application materials.

The following must be sent directly to the Academic Student Services Office in The School of Music: (The address appears below.)

A. Transcripts (GPA 3.0 minimum)

B. Application Essay (accompishments, goals and your reason for pursuing music for graduate studies)

C. Materials (see below)
(You may also interview in person. Contact the professors to schedule a time and let the Office of Student Services know when it is finalized.)

D. Three (3) Letters of recommendation

What materials to submit:

All applicants must submit a maximum of three reproduced manuscript scores that are a representative cross-section of reasonably current work in various genres. One of these should be at least ten minutes in duration (A CD recording of the submitted works should be sent if possible.)

Scores must be legible, clearly identified as to the title, composer, date of completion, etc.

In the case of ensemble works, only include the full score

Electro-acoustic works may be submitted. Please include a score if applicable.

Applicants may also submit other supporting materials (programs, reviews, articles, etc.)

*International students must demonstrate proficiency in English as one of the conditions for admission. Submission of a minimum score of 550 (or a computer-based score of 213) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of all applicants whose native language in not English. Contact the department for more information.
