FAQ
FAQ:

How many students are in the studio?
There are between 10-15 enrolled students; 10 undergraduates and 5 graduate students.
What are the performance opportunities for composers at UA?
There are many opportunities for composers in the School of Music. There are three student composers concerts each year and a concert of electro-acoustic music featuring student works. It is common for students to organize additional concerts both on and off-campus. Also, each year the University Symphony Orchestra holds an orchestral reading of selected student works.
There are numerous opportunities for collaborative projects for interested students, such as working with choreographers and dancers from the School of Dance, filmmakers from the Media Arts program and additional projects with Theatre Arts. The composition area encourages this type of creative work. See also the Fine Arts Technology page for innovative projects happening across the college.
Will it be difficult to get performers to play my music here?
The School of Music has over 400 students, many who are comitted to learning new music and working with composers. The larger ensembles such as the Orchestra, Phiharmonic, Wind Ensemble and choirs frequently play recent and new works.
Are there Scholarships and Fellowships available?
Yes. There are scholarships and financial awards for eligible applicants (including fellowship awards, graduate teaching assistantships and tuition waivers). For more information contact the music office or the composition faculty. Also see the UA’s Graduate College Financial Resources Page
