Frequently Asked Questions
Thank you for your interest in The University of Arizona Pom Line.
We receive many inquiries regarding Tryouts and becoming a member of the UA Pom Line. Here are some of the most common questions we receive, along with the answers we've provided.

When are tryouts?
The weekend changes every year, but it is usually on a Saturday or Sunday in April. To get all of the details, see our Tryout Information page.
What does it take to be a Pommie?
Every year it gets harder and harder to make the line, as the talent level of the candidates gets better. You must have an extremely strong background in dance and strong technique. You must have a dedicated, hardworking, responsible and friendly personality. You must be flexible and fit and have a "dancer's" body. To complete the total package that our coach looks for, you must have great showmanship, which is more than smiling, but a very spirited presentation.
How can I prepare?
DANCE, DANCE, DANCE!!! Who wouldn't love to do this?!?! Basically, take a lot of technique classes and work on your flexibility and showmanship.
Can I be a dance major and be on Pom?
Yes, in fact many have been dance majors. But we must be honest, it is extremely hard to do. You find that you can't do everything the department has to offer, but we don't feel as though we have missed out because we've had so many other great opportunities because of pom.
Is it hard to juggle school and Pom?
Pom is very demanding not just in terms of the time commitment, but mentally and physically as well. But, as long as you are organized and responsible, it isn't so bad. In fact in many ways pom keeps you grounded and on task. Many poms have gone on to graduate school, medical school, and have even danced professionally.
