UA Brass Students Visit Greece
According to the Greek host, the UA brass students, Catherine Ruttan, Martin Patfield, Jessica Morrison, Jonah Elrod and Chase Morgan, out performed all others in Kalavrita and Athens, Greece. Congratulations on a job well done.
Congratulations to Suzanne Rice!
After a national search, she was promoted to the position of Director of Development. She took on her new responsibilities as of November 1, 2006. Suzanne served as Interim Director for 6 months.

Treistman Center for New Media hosted a MOTION CAPTURE DEMONSTRATION showing new, portable technologies for use in animation, dance, music and theatrical performance. Canada's Measurand, Inc. presented.

Roberto Gudiño, a student in Media Arts

Roberto Gudiño, a student in Media Arts, received the UA Centennial Achievement Award, a university award given to only two graduating seniors who have demonstrated above-average scholastic ability, citizenship, leadership, and promise for the future. Roberto will receive a cash award and his name will be permanently engraved on a plaque in Old Main. Roberto’s achievements include being a UA McNair Achievement Scholar, serving as Chief Electrical Engineer/Gaffer for the Kodak 35mm Project, and interning at the Walt Disney ABC/Touchstone Television Studios. Filming in the thick of the jungle in Chiapas, Mexico helped him realize how he can foster social justice and impact a multitude of people through the film medium.

James E. Rogers is providing $1.8 million to The University of Arizona College of Fine Arts to benefit the School of Music’s orchestral and opera conducting program. Rogers’ generous gift will transform the conducting program and have a far-reaching impact on the entire School of Music.
Rogers’ gift to The University of Arizona Foundation will establish the nation’s most comprehensive professional training institute for a new generation of professional conductors and university professors. It will allow the School to retool its orchestra conducting program, building on its current strengths while adding transformational dimensions to prepare artistic leaders professionally for the challenges of the future.
Student and Faculty Member Visit Israel

Faculty member Sama Alshaibi takes graduate Tomiko Jones with her to Jerusalem in December 2006 to work on a photography exhibition entitled "Secrets", held at Al Hoash Palestinian Art Court in Jerusalem. It was a huge success and was well attended by many guests including members of the international press, diplomats from several countries and the Cultural Affairs' consulates from the American, British, German and French embassies. The exhibition promises to forge future collaborations in Israel and Palestine. A future “Secrets” catalogue will be produce for the American exhibitions to take place in Chicago and Colorado.
Michael Gravitt the new Director of Enrollment Management and Recruitment

As of January the College of Fine Arts welcomed to the Student Services team Michael Gravitt, the new Director of Enrollment Management and Recruitment.
Mr. Gravitt has worked for the past fifteen years in a variety of student services positions all across the U.S.: director of admissions at the DePaul University School of Music, academic advisor at the University of North Texas College of Music, and director of marketing at the Sherwood Conservatory of Music in Chicago.
A native of Davenport, Iowa, he holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance and a Master of Arts degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, and a Graduate Certificate in Public Service Management from DePaul University.
He enjoys playing piano, day hiking, biking, and traveling.

Career choices in the arts may be more difficult today than at any other time in history. To assist students in gaining knowledge about arts related career opportunities the College of Fine Arts has established a Career Development office currently located in the Music building room 102A. Therese Perreault, a photographer, educator, marketing specialist and business manager, was hired halftime to compliment the already existing efforts in each school and department by directing Career Development for the College. She will help students plan for careers, develop job-search strategies, and acquire professional skills so that they can have a meaningful life in the arts.
