• Collections

  + Artie Shaw Collection

  Collection consists of musical arrangements, correspondence, photographs, musical recordings, and additional personal materials from the clarinetist, band leader and composer Artie Shaw.

  + Elsie Phillips Collection

  The Phillips Collection, originally the University of Arizona collection of popular music, was renamed after Elsie Phillips, the first University of Arizona Music Librarian. The collection contains music to 5,000 tunes.

  + Grant Hill Sheet Music Collection

  Collection contains sheet music of nearly 135,000 tunes, dating back to the mid-1800's.

  + Kent W. Johnston Stock Arrangement Collection

  Collection contains approximately 3,500 stock arrangements from the early 1900’s to the 1950’s.

  + Les Baxter Collection

  Collection of musical arrangements, photographs, and sound recordings from the composer, bandleader, and pianist Les Baxter. Includes orchestrations by Albert Harris and Hall Daniels.

  + Marguerite Vivian Hood Collection

  Collection consists of correspondence, photographs, concert programs, newspaper clippings, journal articles, teacher education certification materials, and additional personal materials from the music educator, Marguerite Vivian Hood (1903-1992). Through her long, productive career, Hood contributed to the music education field as a public school teacher and supervisor, state music supervisor, university professor, author, conductor, speaker, clinician, and past-MENC president (1950-52).

  + Nelson Riddle Collection

  Collection consists of musical arrangements, correspondence, photographs, musical recordings, and additional personal materials from the composer, arranger, and band leader Nelson Riddle.

  + Paul Weston and Jo Stafford Collection

  Collection contains musical arrangements, 16mm films, reel-to-reel tapes, and various other manuscripts chronicling the careers of the arranger Paul Weston and his wife, singer Jo Stafford.

  + Sue Raney Collection

  Collection contains musical arrangements written for Sue Raney. Includes original arrangements by Ralph Carmichael, Nelson Riddle, Billy May, Bill Holman, and Billy Byers.

  + Tommy Shepard Collection

  Collection contains approximately 8,000 photographs taken by Tommy Shepard during his career as a trombonist. Also includes some musical arrangements and other manuscripts.

  + Vern Yocum Collection

  Contains materials from the music copyist Vern Yocum. The Collection includes business records, calligraphy tools, music, and various other memorabilia that documents Vern Yocum’s life and career as the head of one of the top music preparation services in Hollywood from the 1950s through the 1970s.

  + Wes Hensel Collection

  Collection consists of the music library of the Les Brown lead trumpet player. Includes original arrangements by Wes Hensel, Bob Brookmeyer, Billy Byers, Gary McFarland, and many others.
