Bio
Tami J. Draves is an Assistant Professor of Music Education at the University of Arizona where she teaches Introduction to Music Education, Qualitative Research in the Arts, Music and Sociology, and Psychology of Music. She serves as the faculty advisor for CMENC and leads student teacher seminar. Dr. Draves holds a B.M.E. from Auburn University, a M.M. from the University of New Mexico, and a Ph.D. in Music Education from Michigan State University.
An active scholar, Dr. Draves's research interests include preservice music teacher education with particular emphases on student teaching, early field experience, and teacher identity. She has presented her research at several national and international conferences. Dr. Draves has been published in the Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education and the Journal of Music Teacher Education.
As a public school teacher, Dr. Draves taught middle school and high school band in Aiken, South Carolina, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Cobb County, Georgia. While teaching in Georgia, Dr. Draves was recognized as the Cobb County School District Middle School Teacher of the Year for 2004-2005. At Michigan State University she was a Graduate Fellow in the Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning and is a current member of Phi Kappa Phi. She holds professional memberships in MENC:The National Association for Music Education, The Arizona Music Educators Association, The College Music Society, and the American Educational Research Association.
