Bio

Pianist John Milbauer has performed frequently across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, and his concerts have been broadcast on radio and television stations on four continents. CD releases include recordings with pianist Paulina Zamora (Eroica Classical), violinist David Garrett (Samon/Universal), and violinist Laurent Weibel. Milbauer has been a frequent guest at music festivals such as the Banff Centre, Ernen Musikdorf, the Chautauqua Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, Sierra Summer Festival, and Teatro del Lago/Frutillar. He has performed as soloist with orchestras in New York, California, Wisconsin, and Canada, and has collaborated with members of the Metropolitan Opera, National Symphony, National Orchestra of France, London Symphony, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and the L.A. Philharmonic. Having won prizes from the Institute for International Education, the Hungarian Ministry of Culture, and The Juilliard School, Milbauer has also been awarded the biennial Laird National Leader in Arts Award in 2001 and the Wolodarsky prize from the Banff Centre in 2006. An enthusiastic performer of contemporary music, he is a laureate of the 2006 Orleans (France) Concours for piano music of the 20th Century. He spent two years as an undergraduate at Harvard College before earning degrees from the Eastman School of Music, The Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, and, as recipient of a Fulbright grant, the Liszt Academy in Budapest. His major teachers include Rebecca Penneys, Jerome Lowenthal, and Ferenc Rados. Currently on the faculty of The University of Arizona School of Music and the Chautauqua School of Music, he was previously Director of Keyboard Studies at California State University, Chico.
