Outreach to schools and community. Nationally recognized two-day music festival held on campus for about 300 high school seniors from Arizona and across the country. Interested students may audition for admission into the School of Music. They may also complete applications and interviews for financial aid. Rehearsals culminate in festive concerts.
Outreach to schools and community. Regional Music Festival held on campus, in Arizona Stadium. Over 35 Arizona and southwestern (New Mexico, Nevada, West Texas, Utah) high school marching bands attend and perform together. Nationally recognized music educator brought in to critique and advise both the directors and students. UA Marching Band gives two performances for attending students and parents. Over 5,000 high school students present.
Outreach to schools and community. Formed in 1975, the Arizona Wind Quintet commits a part of its active performing schedule to in-school service. Available for concerts, assemblies, master classes, clinics and workshops.
Outreach to schools and community. Visits to Arizona high schools by UA choral faculty to hold clinics, workshops, rehearsals and coaching for choirs, singers and choir directors.
To provide a forum in which researchers can share the results of their investigations with K-16 teachers. This biennial event, (held in February of odd numbered years) is attended by K-12 teachers as well as professors from all over the United States and several other countries.
Outreach to secondary school students and their teachers. One-day workshop for junior and senior high school percussionists and band directors sanctioned by Arizona Interscholastic Association, INC. (AIA). Morning sessions on the McKale Stadium lawn are taught by UA faculty and TAs, include marching percussion rudiments, instrument care and tuning, with hands-on instruction for all ability levels.
Outreach to schools and community. A one-day leadership-training workshop for Arizona high school choir students. UA choral and voice faculties instruct students in vocal technique and production, the art of choral singing, breathing, and sight singing. The faculty also presents special sessions for choral directors in conducting, repertoire and curriculum. Held annually in October. Attendance of 100-175 students, and 40-50 directors.
Outreach to schools and community. The Jazz Studies area offers programs to the K-12 grades in the Tucson area, using performance and/or the clinic/lecture/demonstration formats to accommodate the special wishes of the venue. Programs utilize UA faculty and students drawn from five vocal jazz ensembles, two big bands, and six small instrumental combos. Approximately 8-12 services per year available, with audiences of 20-500.
Outreach to schools and community. In-school visits by UA Associate Director of Bands to offer clinics and coaching to junior and senior high school students and directors. Volunteer visits to over 50 Arizona and southwestern (El Paso area) schools annually.
Outreach to students. In-school classes by UA faculty to offer instruction and coaching specifically designed for the junior high school player. Offered to Tucson area school band programs.
The keyboard area works with the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) and its local affiliates in a variety of joint projects for the benefit of pre-college students in the region and their teachers as well as the general public:The student chapter of MTNA. University students build leadership skills and scholastic excellence, while supporting and working with the Tucson Music Teachers Association (TMTA). They present their research and expertise on pedagogical topics in workshops open to the public. Student MTNA members serve as adjudicators and in a variety of organizational capacities both in support of the student chapter, TMTA, and Arizona State Music Teachers Association (ASMTA).

This program, created by ASMTA, is a sequential performance and theory curriculum for pianists and other musicians. Every spring the School of Music hosts the annual evaluation day when students demonstrate the fruits of their work during the previous school year. Students perform for UA faculty and graduate students among others, and they write examinations in Music Theory and History.

Outreach to schools and community. The renowned UA Mariachi Arizona presents performances and clinics in middle and senior high schools throughout southern Arizona. Concerts include history and evolution of musical style, as well as music of the Mariachi.
Outreach to students. The two-fold purpose of the Outreach Band is to enhance the musical skills and horizons of participating students and establish closer musical ties between the School of Music and the band programs in Tucson area schools. Saturday morning rehearsals are held in the UA Music Building. Program is aimed at servicing 70-100 students each session. A concert is performed at the end of the season.
Outreach to high school students. In conjunction with Tucson Unified School District, selected high school students visit UA opera rehearsals, observe techniques, styles. Students assist Opera Director as skills allow.
Outreach to schools, public school teachers and orchestra directors. Four or five high school orchestras are invited to campus on a rotating basis for this day-long event in September. Orchestras offer a short performance and then work in a clinic with Dr. Thomas Cockrell and other faculty. Following are master classes, a faculty mini-recital and workshop sessions of interest to aspiring performers and teachers (audition-taking techniques, sight reading, careers in music education, etc.). The day concludes with a free performance of the Arizona Symphony Orchestra in Crowder Hall.
To encourage low brass players of all ages, particularly young students Mini-clinics and loads of information about: mutes, warm-ups, practicing, playing by ear, jazz improvisation, range building, valve techniques and much more. Free and open to trombonists, tubists and euphonium players of all ages, parents, teachers, and prospective low brass players.
