Courses and Registration
Only Media Arts majors and minors may take Media Arts courses in Fall and Spring semesters. (In Summer, Media Arts courses are available to any UA student - see FAQ #21). If you are interested in becoming a Media Arts major or minor, click here for information on the application process.
PLEASE NOTE: Ineligible students, either erroneously or inadvertently enrolled in Media Arts classes, will have their enrollments in those courses cancelled.
Most Media Arts courses are NOT available via WebReg. Declared Media Arts majors and minors must follow the three-step process below (under the heading "Registration") to register for Media Arts courses.

Registration
Registering for courses is a three-step process for Media Arts majors and minors:
1. Priority Advising
Each semester, during October/November and March/April, students should meet in person with an advisor in Media Arts about registration for courses for the following semester. Each class (senior, junior, etc. - determined by your total completed units) is assigned a specific week. See our Registration website to see the specific dates for priority advising. DO NOT MISS YOUR ADVISING WEEK! See our Advising Information website for instructions on making an advising appointment.
2. Registration through Media Arts
The week after your priority advising week, you must turn in your Media Arts registration form -- on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday before 3:15 pm. The Media Arts registration form is available in the Media Arts office in Marshall 220, and is also available for download at our Registration website. Only Media Arts courses requiring departmental registration should be on the form.
3. WebReg Registration
After you turn in your Media Arts registration form and have been registered for your Media Arts courses through the department, WebReg will become available to you on Student Link the following weekend. (See our Registration website for specifics. Your WebReg time will also be shown on your Student Link account during the priority registration period.) Register for your other courses via WebReg at this time.
Advanced Standing
In order to register for 300/400 level Media Arts courses, students must be eligible for (and must apply for) Advanced Standing in Media Arts. See our Advanced Standing website for further information.
Writing Emphasis
All Media Arts majors must complete at least one Media Arts Writing Emphasis course before graduation. See our Writing Emphasis website for the listing of Media Arts Writing Emphasis courses.
Individual Study
There are opportunities for Media Arts students to earn credit for Individual Study with a Media Arts faculty member. Course numbers/categories include:
MAR 391/491: Preceptorship (instructor assistant)
MAR 394/494: Practicum (individual project — usually hands-on)
MAR 399/399H/499/499H: Independent Study (individual research)
MAR 498/498H: Capstone/Honors Thesis (individual research)
In order to register for any of these courses, students must have Advanced Standing in Media Arts and permission of the faculty sponsor. See our Individual Study website for more information and for the downloadable Individual Study form.
Internships
Internships are available to Media Arts majors with Advanced Standing. Completion of all five MAR core courses, a minimum UA GPA of 2.5, and completion of the internship prerequisite course (MAR 303) are required before students will be eligible to intern for Media Arts credit. See our Internships website for more information.
