Professor, Practice Producer-in-residence Assistant Professor of Practice
Producing Graduate Studies in Media Arts
Patrick Roddy began his filmmaking career working on Robert Redfords A River Runs Through It. Since then he has produced eight feature films, three of which he also directed. These films have been distributed domestically and internationally, played film festivals worldwide and have been recognized with nominations and awards.
After producing his first feature Parasite, Mr. Roddy started his own foreign sales and production company in 1998. He brokered foreign sales for low-budget independent films from across the country. His inspiration came from working for Roger Corman while he was in graduate school at UCLA. Also during this time at UCLA he worked with the late producer Debra Hill on a development project titled Meet John Doe, which Mr. Roddy sold as a pitch to Warner Brothers Studio.
From 1999 to 2003 he worked for IFP/Los Angeles (now named FILM INDEPENDENT), a non-profit member based organization that supports independent filmmaking and filmmakers, as a Filmmaker Advisor, using his production and distribution experience to provide practical advice and information to IFP/LA members.
Mr. Roddy in 2003 began the latest phase of career as a professor. He has taught video production at McNeese State University and currently teaches producing at the University of Arizona and digital filmmaking at the Art Institute of Tucson.
Patrick Roddy received his M.F.A. in Film and Television Producing from the University of California at Los Angeles (2000) and his B.A. in Media and Theatre Arts from Montana State University (1992).
