Dr. Swanson has been advising UA Media Arts students since 2003.

In addition to her full-time advising duties, Dr. Swanson is a professional musician (violist and violinist). She is principal violist with the Arizona Opera, and performs regularly with many other ensembles throughout the state of Arizona. From 1997 to 1999, she taught viola, violin and chamber music as a member of the music faculty at Northern Arizona University.
