Application Requirements
A complete application to Media Arts for current UA students consists of the following:
- Media Arts Application form for change-of-major students
Application form will be available at the information sessions. - Statement of Interest — To give us a sense of how well the Media Arts major matches your interests and goals, write a 250 to 500 word statement that:
- Explores the history of your interest in the media arts. (What in your past has brought you to this interest?)
- Explains what motivates your interest in the media arts. (What do you hope to achieve in the field of media arts?)
- Describes which degree program (Film & Television Studies, Producing, or Production) you foresee entering and one specific project (such as a short film, a film analysis, a research paper) that you would like to work on while you are here. How will this program contribute to this project?
Film & Television Studies, Producing, and the BFA in Film & Video Production). Please keep in mind that this statement does not automatically place you within a particular degree program. If admitted you will be given the opportunity to choose/apply for a particular degree path after completing a series of required courses. We are only using this statement to determine the overall fit between your interests and the School’s offerings. Your statement of interest should be in essay form. - List of Related Experience - List and describe your involvement in arts or media arts activities, media arts-related experience, and community service activities.
- Essay - "Movies should have a beginning, a middle and an end," harrumphed French filmmaker Georges Franju. "Certainly," replied Jean-Luc Godard. "But not necessarily in that order."
Respond to Godard's assertion using specific examples drawn from a film or television program to support your argument. Be sure to construct a clear argument in your introduction that leads to a specific thesis statement, follow with your argument (supported by specific examples), and end with a conclusion. Your essay should be between 250 and 500 words in length. - Letters of Recommendation - Submit two letters of recommendation from teachers, advisors or supervisors. These letters must speak to your media arts interest, academic potential and ability to be self-directed. Each letter must include the recommender’s signature and contact information. NOTE: Do not submit letters from family members or personal friends.
- Current UA SAPR - All applicants must provide their current SAPR. In addition, all freshmen whose first semester at UA is Fall 2008 must include a high school transcript. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND ADDITIONAL MATERIALS SUCH AS VIDEOTAPES OR DVD'S. THEY WILL NOT BE REVIEWED, NOR WILL THEY BE RETURNED.
