School of Art News

US News & World Report’s 2007 edition of America’s Best Graduate Schools has once again ranked The University of Arizona’s School of Art as a national leader in arts education.  Our MFA program is ranked 34th in the nation and 9th for the excellence of our photography program.

The 2007-08 Visiting Artists and Scholars Program: Making the Invisible Visible, is a series contending with images, populations, and/or concepts that are not readily visible in mainstream culture. More information is available on artists and dates for this series here: http://www.cfa.arizona.edu/visible/

The Visual Arts Graduate Research Laboratory will be ready to house students in the fall of 2009. Facilities for graduate students will include private studios, a wood fabrication shop, a metal fabrication shop and foundry, classrooms with digital capabilities, a lounge, and exhibition spaces.

Our graduate programs now include a PhD in the History and Theory of Art, with an emphasis in photographic or traditional art history. We also offer a Museum Studies Graduate Certificate Program. Students have the opportunity to prepare for a museum or academic career by gaining direct and involved experience studying original materials through internships with, among others, the Center for Creative Photography and the UA Museum of Art. The program is situated within an interdisciplinary arena and places the work of museums in its broader historical, social, ideological, and cultural contexts.
