NOW: Professor Moira Geoffrion
Recent sabbatical returnee, Moira Geoffrion reports having so much data, imagery, and sketches from her travels abroad, that she has several years of work ahead of her. Geoffrion’s work - often large installation pieces - combines painting with casting and fabrication of found and sculpted forms. Her sabbatical research was conducted in Europe and the US at the Kew Gardens in London, the Jardin des Plantes in Paris and the Guizi Gardens in Verona, Italy. She also visited other gardens in Cologne, Dusseldorf, Basel, and Kassel, and in the US, in Chicago and St. Louis.
While conducting her research abroad, Geoffrion had an exhibition opening in Germany. The event was a curated exhibition of three Southwestern artists; Geoffrion was given three large rooms and a large entry hall to fill with her work. Eighteen of her layered photo translucent works and four mixed media works were on display. She also took some time to visit the Venis Biennale, The Basel Art Fair, The Cologne Art Fair and the Dokumenta exhibit in Kassel Germany.
This fall, Geoffrion exhibited alongside sculptor Fred Borcherdt at Gallery Centella. Their exhibition entitled, Been Around: Gonna Stay, is a retrospective selection of their work from the last twenty years.
