NOW: Professor Karen Zimmermann

Karen Zimmermann, Associate Professor and Chair of the Visual Communication division, lead a discussion session in June of 2007 on the relationship of graphic design pedagogy to book arts at the Action/Inaction: Book/Arts Conference in Chicago. The session arose out of Zimmermann’s desire to have a discussion with other book arts and design faculty to determine common overlaps in practices. Thinking about the relationship between the book arts and graphic design, Zimmerman says, “one knows that there is a common shared history of printing, paper arts, typography, photography and technical innovations”. The discussion session focused on these crossovers in hopes of developing / improving on interdisciplinary teaching methods.
