NOW: Professor Alfred Quiroz
Alfred Quiroz is a Professor of 2D and the Area Coordinator of Painting and Drawing. Quiroz works with the School of Art and Risk Management to ensure the School’s compliance with national, local, and university safety codes. Quiroz came to The University of Arizona in 1989 and was immediately concerned with the ventilation system in the Painting and Drawing Studios.
Since then, Quiroz has worked to install improved ventilation systems, eyewash stations, fire-proof storing racks, a new system for water disposal, and acrylic and oil paint brush cleaners. Quiroz has also developed and presented a green palette to the School as part of his research into safe materials and use for artists.
Quiroz is the recipient of The League of United Latin American Citizens’ 2007 Latino Artist Lifetime Achievement Award. His contemporary narrative paintings are recognized for their satirical and historical texts, often destroying notions of national pride and ideology.
