4. Evaluate the intern upon completion of the internship.

Internship Description
Prepare a description for each different internship position offered. Submit the description via company email to the Director of Internships in Media Arts, mbharalo@u.arizona.edu.

Internship descriptions need the following information: title of intern position; description of intern responsibilities; hours expected per week; skill levels or qualifications required.

Once approved for Media Arts internship credit, the internship description will be posted to the Media Arts student listserv.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions about internships

1. How can I find an internship at a Los Angeles production house or studio?

2. How can I find an internship on a major studio or independent production?

Read Variety’s list of films in production. Contact the production company producing the film (see HCD on-line).

3. Where can I find local film productions, student film crew-calls, and opportunities?

Subscribe to the Media Arts Interns listserv “MAR-INTERNS,” which delivers weekly internship and employment announcements directly to your email in-box. go here

4. Summer internship — what advice do you have about getting enrolled?

Plan ahead - Get your internship paperwork started early.

Before you can be enrolled for M AR 493 credit, you need to submit to Media Arts: the completed application, the signed waiver and the contract with original signatures (no faxes).

5. Summer session deadlines — how do they affect my internship?

Summer deadlines move a lot faster than Fall or Spring semester deadlines. The University will cancel your enrollment in all of your summer courses, if registration and fees are not paid by the summer deadlines.

Being dropped from M AR 493 can jeopardize your internship. Many companies require interns to receive academic credit during the internship. If you are dropped from your M AR 493 credit, the Department has to notify your internship supervisor that you are no longer enrolled for credit and your internship contract is no longer valid.

To avoid this, here are some tips:

a) Find the amount you owe by accessing Student Link.

b) Pay on time. An email is sent to each student to remind you of the payment deadline.

c) Some students anticipate the summer internship and put funds into the account in advance. That way, when the internship enrollment takes place, funds are available and the student is not dropped.

If you are dropped from you internship credit, contact the registrar. After you have handled the financial situation and are ready to re-enroll in M AR 493, then contact Media Arts.

    MAR 303 Professional Practices

    Course Description:
Professional Practices prepares students to meet the professional expectations of media careers. Students are introduced to career research, internship and job search strategies, résumé and cover letter writing, an industry roundtable and a mock interview. M AR 303 is the required pre-internship course.

    Course Goals:
    (1) To prepare students to enter the media arts field as professionals, and (2) To assist students with the selection of an internship position.

    Assignments:

There are four groups of assignments:

  • THE INDIVIDUAL: Prepare a résumé (draft and final versions). The resume is sent to the interviewer for the mock interview.
  • THE CONNECTION: Prepare a cover letter (draft and final versions) to a potential employer or internship sponsor. The revised cover letter is sent to the interviewer for the mock interview.
  • THE WORKPLACE: Using research on the media arts career you wish to enter, participate in a roundtable to discuss issues relevant to the media arts. A professional from the media arts industries acts as the roundtable facilitator. Each roundtable has an agenda, developed by the students in the roundtable. Each roundtable in the course addresses a different topic.
  • THE FINAL STEP: Experience a mock interview with a media arts professional. Each student sends resume and cover letter to a media arts professional who conducts a mock interview with the student, in class.
