Showcase of Talent
The annual Showcase of Talent is a vital part of Design and Technology student preparation. The Showcase is a means by which School of Theatre Arts students are introduced to theatre professionals from across the United States. The Showcase brings production managers, casting agents, artistic directors and others to the School of Theatre Arts to interview students.
Selected Design and Technology students are invited to take part in the Showcase in the fall semester. Their resumes become part of a book of resumes and production photographs that are then mailed out to major theatres. Those receiving this book are invited to attend the Showcase main event usually held in January at the beginning of the spring semester. Students meet these professionals on the day of the event itself in a day-long portfolio review and call back session. Many students obtain offers for summer or long-term employment at this event. Regular attendees at the Showcase of Talent include The Arena Theatre, The Arizona Theatre Company, The Hartford Stage, The Opera Theatre of St. Louis, The Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Pacific Conservatory for the Performing Arts, The Utah Shakespeare Festival, The Washington National Opera and others.
