Welcome to the Design & Technology Divsion of Theatre Arts

The mission of the Design and Technology Division is to train students to work in the professional theatre. We do this through two programs. One is the BFA degree program that gives students exposure in all areas of design and productions with emphasis in one or two areas. The areas of emphasis in the BFA program are: Costume Design, Costume Production, Lighting Design, Scenic Design, Sound Design, Stage Management and Technical Direction.

The MFA degree program is a three-year training program with strong emphasis in one area of design or technology. The areas of emphasis available at the graduate level are: Costume Design, Costume Production, Lighting Design, Scenic Design, and Technical Direction. Students are admitted to the graduate program every year for the fall semester.

All students in both programs are evaluated regularly through portfolio reviews conducted each semester. Training is through a combination of classroom instruction and supervised production work. There are additional internships experiences available to selected students at a number of major theatres including The Arizona Theatre Company, Cirque du Soleil (Las Vegas), The Guthrie Theatre and The Hartford Stage.
