Bio
Nina Janik received her early ballet training from Simon Semenoff, soloist with Ballet Russe, Valentina Pereyaslavec, Maggie Black and Finis Jhung among others. She began her musical theatre performing career at age 19. Her professional performing credits include Broadway, national companies, stock and revues.
Educated at Smith College and the University of Nevada, Ms. Janik received her BFA, magna cum laude , from the University of the Americas in Puebla, Mexico, and her MFA in Ballet Choreography from the University of Utah.
She staged ballets for Ballet West (lecture/demo tour), the Utah Bicentennial Dance Festival and the University of Utah Ballet Ensemble, and directed and choreographed musicals for professional theatre both in New York City and Salt Lake City. Her ballets have been performed in Mexico and Italy, and throughout the United States. In 1984, she staged and directed Cummings and Goings starring Metropolitan Opera baritone Bruce Hubbard at the Village Gate in New York City. Ms. Janik was awarded the Tucson Pima Arts Council Performing Arts Fellowship in Choreography in 1996, and the Arizona Commission on the Arts Fellowship in Choreography in 1999.
Special research interests include the Philip Beamish Body System floor barre and ballet technique methodology.
