Financial Aid Information

Graduate dance scholarships are awarded by the Head of the School of Dance based on the recommendations of the Graduate Committee. However these scholarships are administered through the Graduate College.

Dance scholarships are awarded on a semester by semester basis. Students' eligibility for scholarships is reviewed at the end of each semester.

Graduate Teaching Assistantship (GTA): Graduate assistants are exempt from the nonresident tuition charge. Registration fees are not waived. Teaching assistantships can be for .25, .33, or .50 time, depending on number of unit hours taught. In order to be eligible for a GTA, students must complete the mandatory orientation session conducted by the University Teaching Center.

Fellowships: Availability subject to successful application to Graduate College by the department. Range is between $500 and $5,000 per semester.

Haldeman Scholarships Cash awards in the range of $100 to $500 per semester. All students applying for Haldeman Scholarships must complete a School of Dance Scholarship Application form and submit it to the Scholarship Coordinator of the School of Dance each semester. Application deadlines for the upcoming semester are posted at the end of the preceding semester.

Loans

Loan programs in which graduate students may participate include, but are not limited to, Perkins Loans (formerly National Direct Student Loans), and Guaranteed Student Loans. Financial aid applications should be submitted to the Office of Student Financial Aid in the Administration Building by the annual application deadline of the year the funds are required. The priority deadline for applications is usually May 1. A separate application is required for the Guaranteed Student Loan Program. An applicant must be admitted to a degree program before submitting the application to the Office of Student Financial Aid. The total processing time at the University, bank, and guarantee agency can take up to four months. Therefore, early application is advised.

The Office of Student Financial Aid (203 Administration Bldg.) publishes a catalogue delineating other sources of financial assistance for graduate students. The Graduate College also has a brochure, "Graduate College Sources of Funding for Graduate Students," which gives more information.

In addition, there is a URL on the World Wide Web for scholarships. The site is called Fastweb and it is located at: http://www.studentservices.com/fastweb/.
