The Masters of Arts degree in Art Education is an integral part of the comprehensive art programs offered by the School of Art. The graduate program is intended to meet the needs of students who wish advanced professional understanding within the field of Art Education. Students may pursue an MA or, for students interested in certification to teach in public schools but not currently certified, the MA plus certification.
In addition, students with a BA or BFA in Art may pursue Post-Baccalaureate Certification as an unclassified graduate student or as an undergraduate.
Three options are available to students seeking the MA Degree:
MA in Art Education, Art and Visual Culture Studies Option, offers the most flexibility for the student to build expertise in an area of interest. Students take core Art Education courses and use electives to build their expertise.
MA in Art Education, Community and Museums Option, provides learning and internship opportunities for students interested in professional roles as art and visual culture educators in community or museum venues.
MA in Art Education, Certification Option, provides coursework leading to certification to teach art at K-12 levels in the state of Arizona. The certification is transferable, with minor adaptations, in many other states.
