Widdifield teaches Colonial and Modern Mexican Art. Her research interests include: history, gender, nationalism, and institutions in 19th and early 20th century Mexico. Her publications include:The Embodiment of the National in Late Nineteenth-Century Mexican Painting, (University of Arizona Press, 1996) as well as articles on 19th century Mexican art. She also edited La Amplitud del Modernismo y la Modernidad (Conaculta; Curare, 2003).
