Circulation of the collection is restricted to faculty and students of the School of Art and the College of Fine Arts. Non-departmental regular faculty may request use of the collection during a semester if the request does not conflict with School of Art needs. In the event that permission for such use is granted, slides must be checked out directly before a class and returned immediately afterwards. The department cannot accommodate TAs or students from other departments. There are no exceptions to this rule.
Slides are loaned primarily for classroom teaching lectures by faculty and/or presentations by students. School of Art affiliates may not use slides to teach at any other institution or school. With permission of the curatorial staff, slides may be borrowed for special lectures to scholarly audiences on campus.
Borrowing forms, which are available at the circulation desk, must be filled out in their entirety.
The classification of the slide collection is arranged to facilitate browsing and self-service. The user may approach the slide collection directly after completing a brief orientation provided by a staff member. The guidelines for the VRC classification scheme are posted in the image library. New users, are strongly encouraged to consult with staff to communicate their needs and receive guidance in their searches. Professors requiring that their students use the analog collection should schedule a group orientation.
Students are encouraged to research the digital and/or analog collections prior to their presentations to insure that there is adequate visual representation for their topic.
As of January 1, 2006 the VRC will no longer process new requests for analog slide production.
