Advising Information

Academic advising helps you understand and complete your degree requirements; helps you select minors to complement your major area of study; and helps you develop career goals in conjunction with your academic course of study. When you take advantage of academic advising and student mentoring, you are most likely to be successful in planning your academic and professional career.

To that end, the College of Fine Arts uses a model where students are assigned a primary advisor within their School or Department. This allows you to receive highly personalized guidance on a wide array of topics pertaining to your major course of study. You are strongly encouraged to see your assigned academic advisor at least once a semester.

The University has established guidelines regarding academic policies and procedures, your rights and responsibilities, and your degree requirements. You are responsible for your own academic progress and should become familiar with these guidelines.

In the College of Fine Arts, our academic advisors are faculty members and professional staff advisors within the Schools/Department. Faculty members throughout the College also serve as mentors, assisting students with information about career opportunities or advice about graduate schools.

In the Dean's Office, the Office of Academic Student Services ensures a consistent application of academic advising policies and procedures as well as acts as a College-wide resource on academic progress issues, such as student admissions and recruitment, academic honors, academic probation, and graduation.
