Ceramics Facility


The c. 5,000-square-foot Ceramics Area is located in the Esquire Building complex within five minutes walk of the Art Building. It includes a hand-building classroom equipped with several large tables, a slab-roller and a pull-down screen to view slides and digital images; a room with fifteen electric pottery wheels and wedging tables; a plaster room for mold-making and slip-casting; a roomy clay-mixing area with excellent ventilation; an exterior, roofed glaze area with a safely vented spray-booth; and an exterior, roofed kiln yard with six electric kilns of varying sizes (from 1.4 to 10 cubic feet), two Geil gas downdraft kilns (30 and 24 cubic feet) with digital temperature controls, a custom-built 80-cubic foot downdraft gas car kiln, and an updraft gas raku kiln. Professor Chabot's nearby office suite includes her extensive resource library of ceramic and art books as well as videos, slides and CD's of ceramic art and processes.


Sculpture Facilities


Within the sculpture area in the School of Art we have a dedicated figure modeling studio, a large fully functional wood shop (24" planer, 8" jointer, lathe, 10" Unisaw with left tilt, 12" compound miter saw, small, medium and large band saws, drill press, oscillating spindle sander, 6"x48" belt sander with 12" disc, 30" disc sander and various clamps, hand and electric power tools.) a separate metal shop (metal lathe, milling machine, 24" disc sander, bench grinder, 1" band sander, large band saw, horizontal band saw, ¼" plate x 48" power rolls, 22 gauge hand rolls, English wheel, 16 gauge foot shear, 16 gauge sheet metal brake, 55 ton punch, plate and angle shear, 30 ton press, ½" plate plasma cutter, forge, tig, mig, arc, spot and oxy/acetylene welding capabilities, various hand, air and electric power tools and large capacity air compressor system with enclosed cabinet sand blaster.) and enclosed bronze and aluminum foundry space with ceramic shell casting capabilities.


Graduate Annex


We have separate studios for up to 10 3-D graduate students within a decommissioned synagogue building located across campus from the School of Art. This space has been in use, by the 3-D division, for 20 years and features a large common wood and metal working space (14" wood and 14" metal band saws, chop saw, miter saw, 10" table saw, 12"-14" rip saw, 6" jointer, 6"x48" belt sander with 12" disc, drill press, mig and oxy/acetylene welding, steel forge with 50 lb. trip hammer, air compressor and a bronze and aluminum foundry with standard investment casting capabilities.) and outdoor work spaces.

Fremont House


The School of Art has a house (north 1½ blocks) available for temporary performance, installation and gallery exhibitions. The house has six separate rooms, including a basement, plus two bathrooms, a kitchen area and some outdoor space. The Fremont House can be reserved by individual students, groups or used for class projects.
